Difference between hydrosol and regular toner

  They might sound unfamiliar, but don't worry—as an aromatherapist, I am here to share the magic of hydrosols and why they might be even better than regular toner.

• What is a hydrosol?
  Hydrosols are the wisdom of traditional natural skincare. A hydrosol is a byproduct of the essential oil distillation process. During distillation, the oil floats to the top, while the water remains at the bottom. The water beneath the essential oil is what we call a hydrosol. Besides containing small amounts of essential oil components, hydrosols are rich in water-soluble plant nutrients, primarily organic acids, which help balance the skin. They not only possess the aromatic scent of plants but also offer antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, with high skin compatibility. While their scent is similar to essential oils, it is not identical. Hydrosols are very gentle and safe to use on pregnant women, children, and animals.

  Toners are typically formulated with many artificial compounds. They are not single-ingredient products. They often contain water, glycerin, other moisturizing agents, or various additives. Some may even contain alcohol or preservatives. Of course, you can choose a toner with a hydrosol base, but its efficacy differs significantly from that of a pure hydrosol.

Unlike regular toners that may contain harsh chemicals, alcohol, or synthetic fragrances, hydrosols are 100% natural and free from harmful additives. This gentle touch ensures our skin is not disturbed. Take Roman Chamomile hydrosol, for example; it is gentle on the skin and possesses anti-inflammatory properties.

  In our pursuit of healthy skin, hydration plays a vital role. Hydrosols can infuse moisture into the skin. Furthermore, they contain precious water-soluble plant nutrients, mainly organic acids, which provide an extra boost for the skincare products we apply afterward.
