【What is a Hydrosol?】

Hydrosols represent a traditional, natural wisdom in skincare. A plant hydrosol is a byproduct of the essential oil distillation process, where the essential oil floats to the top and the water remains at the bottom. Due to their differing densities, the essential oils rise to the surface while the water settles beneath; this water is known as the hydrosol. In addition to small amounts of essential oil components, hydrosols contain many water-soluble plant nutrients, primarily organic acids, which have a balancing effect on the skin. Not only do they possess a plant-based aromatic scent, but they also offer antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, making them highly skin-friendly. While their scent is similar to that of essential oils, it is not identical. Hydrosols are very gentle and can be safely used on pregnant women, children, and animals.

 

Plant hydrosols are a commonly used element in aromatherapy. As "subtle waters," hydrosols carry the soul of the plant and can act rapidly on psychological, emotional, and energetic levels. Water is, in a sense, the plant's most cherished messenger. Since the human body is composed of seventy percent water, it is particularly receptive to the messages carried by these subtle plant waters. Hydrosols possess the complete imprint of the plant and contain its deepest messages. Water represents a pure elemental force, full of vitality.
